In a Pot Limit Holdem at any point in time the size of the bet should be equal to the existing pot size. Any raise followed, by a call can include the existing size of the pot plus extra. On an average a pot limit holdem is in between the limit and no limit games.

Specific betting positions in the table of a pot limit holdem are as follows:-
• A maximum of 10 players can play pot limit holdem.
• A white plastic button represents the dealer.
• The player immediate left to the dealer places the small blind
• The player left to the small blind places the large big blind.
• The small blind is usually the half of the large blind.
• Amounts of blind are concluded before the game starts. Say a $2 for small blind means $4 for big blind.
• The dealer position and the blind positions rotate clockwise in each new table.

In the Pre-flop round of pot limit holdem the hole cards are dealt starting from the small blind. After the players see their cards, they can decide folding or betting like:-
• Say, the small blind placed $2 and big blind placed $4 the total stakes in the pot is $6 now.
• The next player should place minimum $4 (big blind call) or they can raise it (small blind + big blind + call by self that is $2 + $4 + $4) by $10, making the total pot value to be $20.
• So in this particular bet, the bet by the player was $4 plus the raise of $10 = $14.
• The next player who is making the bet should contribute to call ($4 plus the $10 raise) a bet value of $14 which is equal to the previous bet, increasing the pot value to $34 or they can fold.
• So every player who wishes to continue playing should contribute to the $14 else they will have to fold and this is the basic concept of betting in pot limit holdem games.

In the flop, turn and river of pot limit holdem games the same style of betting continues with the beginner player in each betting round having the option to start not less from the original big blind value or equal to the existing pot value and raise if required too!

Of the several variations of five card stud you need to know the basic structure of the game that is as follows:
• Each player ante a said sum in to the pot before the game begins or even before the cards are dealt.
• Ante is predetermined.
• Following the ante, the dealer shuffles and deals 2 cards in the pre-flop round where one card is dealt face up and the other card is dealt face down.
• The betting round follows after the players examine their card. The person to initiate the bring-in is the player who has the low ranking card face up.
• For any kind of ties in low rank, suit ranks is used to break the tie.
• The dealer burns one card downward and keeps it aside.
• Each player is dealt with a flop card upward, following which the betting is initiated by the high rank card.
• Each player is dealt with a turn card upward, following which the betting is initiated by the high rank card.
• Each player is dealt with a river card downward followed by showdown.
• The dealer looks in to the cards and gives the pot to the high rank normally.
• Players can muck if they do not wish to reveal their cards if the casino or site permits.

The variation of five card stud games with betting structure is also based upon:-
• Limit five card stud poker where there is limitation in the bet amount.
• No limit five card stud poker where there is no limitation in the bet amount.
• Pot limit five card stud poker where there is a pot amount to be the minimum of the bet amount
• Spread limit five card stud poker is where the limitation of the bet is in ranges of $x to $x
• Variations also apply with having limit or spread limit bets only in the higher betting rounds.

There are several variations of five card stud based on pot splitting like:-
• In lowball poker or the California five card stud the lowest rank splits the pot, the “wheel” is considered the best low like A-2-3-4-5
• There is high-low pot splitting variants where the stakes are shared by the high and low pots.

Variations based on 2 downcard, 3 upcard or 3 downcard and 2 upcard dealing exists.

Pre-flop holdem is the round before the flop round. This round follows the ante or the blind bets. The pocket cards are dealt in the pre-flop round. The quality of strength of the starting hands of the pre-flop holdem cards can give a clue to chances of winning in a particular round.

Tight aggressive players play a careful pre-flop holdem round. If you are having worse hands it is better to fold rather than risking a few stakes. However, you can still proceed playing with medium hands based on odds to see if they can qualify a poker in the flop of the first community cards, if is it unfavorable you can fold in the flop. A very strong starting hand in the pre-flop holdem can take you through the river to win. However, a strong hand in pre-flop holdem does not mean winning, odds and strategy applies along with a little luck too.

To decide on how to proceed with pre-flop holdem you need to know the strongest hands and other poker basics relating to the kind of poker hands like what is a no pair, pair, straight, flush, royal flush, three-of-a-kind, four-of-a-kind, full-house etcetera. If you are not familiar with any of these terminologies you can refer to a poker glossary for the meaning and example of the terms.

Being able to understand lows and nut lows is very crucial in high-low games. The trick of creating juicy pots should be initiated from the pre-flop holdem round if you have a good and strong hand.

Also you need to know that you should not bet very high stakes in letting your opponents learn that you are in a good stand. Be poker faced if you have got a monstrous poker hand, if you are going to show your excitement, your fellow players are going to fold quite early and you will land up with having a small pot for the split.

If you have had a very good and unbeatable hand in pre-flop holdem round you need to employ some semi-bluffing to have your opponents put in stakes in to the pot; putting up with an unpredictable playing style is also one way to be a successful player. Having a good starting hand is not a key to winning, it should be combined with tells and odds to finally hit the pot. And, a little bit of poker psychology too!

It is important to differentiate stud poker from what is draw poker? Many people happen to confuse between stud poker and draw poker games. This might be because of the common five card draw getting confused and misleading with a five card stud which are evolutionary variants of five card stud draw.

The one main thing that differentiates draw poker between community card games and stud games is the replacement. And also, the way in which the cards are dealt in draw games.

The highlight of draw poker games from other games can be given as:-
• In draw poker the cards for the players are fully dealt before the betting round. Or to be specific, if there is an ante, following the ante all the five cards are dealt in full to each player and after that the betting round follows.
• There is no betting round for each card dealt to the players.
• However, in draw poker, the betting round begins immediately after the players see the whole of their cards. Mostly all cards are dealt face down.
• The chance for the pot to grow in draw poker games increases in the replacement round.
• Following the betting round after the dealing, the players request replacement for X number of cards and the dealer gives them replacement cards for each card they discard.
• The discarded card is not used in the game any further.

Draw poker variations apply in terms of replacement too:-
• Some casinos and sites have restrictions in the number of cards that can be replaced.
• Traditionally, it was possible for players to have even all the cards replaced from the remaining deck that is undistributed.
• Some casinos require that a player can replace only one card.
• Some allow drawing of up to 5 cards of the player shows that he has Ace in his hand
• In some draw poker games, the clubs allow N number of replacements with paying some stakes to the pot for each draw.
• After the said number of replacements is over showdown occurs.

There are variations of draw poker games named behind the number of draws like triple draw, double draw and multiple draw etcetera.

Variations operate as high hand winning, low hand winning, high-low winning etcetera.

Variations also apply as limit, no limit, pot limit and spread limit.

Poker strategy helps with financial responsibility within reasonable levels in Limit games. However, that does not mean any success, nor does just a love for the game or a mission to win is going to get you success. Skills are what play the major role in letting you win any kind of game.

Poker strategy lets new players to stick on to limited fluctuations of winning and losing. A $100 winning followed by $300 loss can definitely mean frustration, but with poker being a gambling game you need to learn to digest such. Once you have mastered the psychology of putting up with constant failures and become balanced to not get over-excited with success, you really start playing the game with your skills. Your skills in playing a betting structure can get bettered with a balanced emotion.

In Hold’em games it is not unusual for players to suffer a trap combination like AJ off suit or any other forms of trap, the better is to fold trap if you are a new player than to risk further betting in limit holdem. Playing tight is very important for beginners. Poker strategy also suggests playing based on hand, image and position are quite crucial.

On the other hand with medium hands you need to wait to see the flop and then decide. Folding with medium hands and waiting for the strong hands to play anymore can make to appear as a sickening player.

Never fold with medium hands in the pre-flop of any hold’em games, just wait to see the flop; from the 3 community cards you may see some luck to improve. Especially in limit hold’em the loss is less compared to the no limit ones, so you need to learn to wait and improve hands and betting skillfully at least until the flop else you are never going to graduate to learn.

Playing with traps can be senseless, but waiting to improve with medium is sensible in limit. Never hesitate to take calculated risks in limit hold’em games. Be sure to get stakes of 50 or 100 times the blinds that are in most cases pre-determined.

Loss is definitely not negligible despite well-worked poker strategy. But little burns teach a kicking lesson that you will not forget in your life time! Learning the poker strategy to identify the type of players you are dealing with and also to calculate odds is the major key to any split.

Lowball is an interesting and less commonly played, but interesting poker variation. It is very much similar to the five card stud, but the low hand wins the game. Ace is the lowest in these games and straights and flushes to not count against the low ranks.

Sevens rule is an important aspect in lowball poker and you need to know it for any kind of lowball games. The 7s rule “if you happen to check without betting with a 7 low (or) & 7 better following the draw and then happen to call the bet of a player who did bet after you, you need to return his bet if you happen to beat him.” Checking with a 7 and then calling the bet should be made with consideration of the number of players in the table at any time.

Some of the common of lowball poker variants in terms of ranking are:-
• A-to-5 lowball poker! If wild cards are used, it can replace the gap of the lowers card that you do not hold. A-2-3-4-5 is the best hand. Ace is the low and straight and flushes do not count against lows.
• Deuce-to-2 lowball poker! In this variant, straights and flushes count against the low killing the value of the hand. Ace is contradictorily high card in this variant of lowball. 7-6-5-4-3-2 is the best hand. If 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, or 2 happen to be an exposed card before a draw then the card should be replaced with some other card.

The common betting structure variations apply for lowball poker too like:-
• No limit lowball poker
• Pot limit lowball poker

Compulsorily after the draw or replacement any exposed card should be replaced. Exposed cards if they are anything from A, 2, 3, 4, 5 in A-to-5 or 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 in 2-to7 should be replaced.

At any point in time you cannot falsely call that you have a better hand. If you happen to call wrongly and any better low folds fearing to lose, then your hand is totally dead and you do not qualify to split.

Most games allow the use of a joker or a wild card in a lowball poker for any unused card rank. You need to work out probabilities for various combinations to skillfully play this poker form. Having a browse through probability tables should help!

Razz poker is a low pot split variation of stud games. In razz a total of mixed cards are dealt and the betting is non-positional in these games with the betting beginning based on the high or low rank of the face up card. The best low five hands win the pot. Straights and flushes do not count against the lows nor is an 8 or better mandatory for the winning.

Ace is the lowest in Razz poker the wheel which is A-2-3-4-5 can be the best possible one. The chances of winning are delineated for the possible lows in the increasing to decreasing order are as follows:-
A-2-3-4-5 > A-2-3-4-6 > 2-3-4-5-6 > A-5-6-7-9 > 3-5-6-7-9 > 5-6-7-8-9 > 7-T-J-Q-K > 9-T-J-Q-K > 8-9-T-A-A > 5-6-7-2-2 > 2-3-4-K-K > 5-5-3-3-3

The sequence of the flow of razz poker is as follows:-
• Predetermined ante by all players
• Dealing of 2 face down and 1 face up card (3 mixed cards)
• The player with a high value in the face up makes the bring-in; if there happens to be a tie suits are used to break the tie. (spade > heart > diamond > clubs)
• The players are supposed to make a small bet (x) or big bet (2x) bet in an x/2x game in the first round.
• Fourth street upward card where the low rank of the dealt street card is to make the bet disregarding any straights of flushes that would have been in the up cards.
• Fifth street upward card where the low rank of the dealt street card is to make the bet disregarding any straights of flushes that would have been in the up cards.
• Sixth street upward card where the low rank of the dealt street card is to make the bet disregarding any straights of flushes that would have been in the up cards.
• Show down follows where the low hand wins per the above guidelines in the order from the Wheel down …..> 5-5-3-3-3

If there happens to be two hands qualifying for the split the pot is shared between the two.

Razz poker is different from draw games. Street cards operate in draw, there is no replacement card in Razz nor or there any community cards. Razz poker is the famous of the lowball poker. These games are not complicated like the holdem, but are interesting than draw.

A loose aggressive or any player can try to exhaust you by putting all his stakes in the pot in a single bet! There can be surprising shocks at anytime and the flow of the game is going to be pretty thrilling indeed. Anything can turn upside down anytime.

As the no limit hold’em flows through the flop you need to concentrate on two main things:-
• The nature of the opponents; you can classify them as tight-aggressive, tight-passive, loose-aggressive, loose-passive and unpredictable ones.
• The number of hands that go out of the play with folding.

You need to compare the nature of the players who fold every time before you decide on the next move. A lot of odds are needed in this game type.

Unpredictable players in no limit hold’em games! Some players can be tight-aggressive in the flop, play loose-passive in the turn and crankily loose-aggressive in the river; you need to be extremely cautious of such unpredictable players. There is no safe way that you can fold or stay. Unpredictable guys can make you fold your best hand despite them being with a worse hand!

Tight-aggressive players in no limit hold’em games! These are the ones that fold the most in the flop. You can bluff these guys very easily; they tend to bet less with a medium or low hand, but be sure that you do the bluffing part right as the other watchful guys may get a clue if you are doing it in a big table.

Tight-passive players in no limit hold’em games! These players to not risk with going any ahead in a difficult table; despite holding a winning hand they are not going to perform in a no-limit game.

Loose-aggressive players in no limit hold’em games! These are the ones that win a lot of pots, but eventually happen to loose a same share. However, such guys tend to graduate from fluctuations, so you need to see if they are changing to be unpredictable.

Loose-passive players in no limit hold’em games! They can loose easily, they tend to play with a second good hand and tend to give away to bluffs, try to exploit them, if they have a second hand there is no chance they will make it in no limit hold’em games.

The amount of stakes you may require for these games is normally a 50 to 100 times of the blind for a good player. You can call these betting structures as pocket friendly. However, refraining from betting high and playing low is not a key to success to being a poker pro. Skills sets are what that counts to a major part of these games. Skills are no exception to these games; however, they are comparatively bank-roll friendly than the no limit and pot limit games.

Working with medium hands! Mind blocks can set in for any player in the pre-flop when a bad hand shows up. However, skills and poker wisdom suggests to fold with a worse starting hand. But you can risk betting to wait to see your flop in a limit hold’em with a medium hand. With a medium hand chances are dual, you can either improve or go worse or find no chance at all. In limit hold’em games you loose less when you wait to see your flop. If luckily you happen to show a little improvement, you need to watch for nut lows or highs in opponents. If odds do seem to work in your favor you can proceed to see the turn with an improved middle hand. When you are proceeding to the turn you need to learn tells of your opponent pretty wisely. Do not get carried over by false tells, most who wait for the turn, if you hold a medium improved, are likely to be either better or may be they are bluffing to have you down. Beyond turn it is all odds and bluffs that can help you. Being unpredictable is quite important in this round.

The term middle hand in his article refers to the medium strength hand and not the middle position in the table. However, if you are in a table of many players and are right next or late to act, you must get a clue to the opportunity of your hand in the pre-flop by how the other players are folding. But the little risk is always worth to traveling until the flop despite your position in limit hold’em games.

With skilled medium improved hand you can try a split in limit hold’em provided there is no tight aggressive with an Ace and high unbeatable! Or any other strong form. Learn odds!

Poker history has not a single origin. Stories explaining poker history seem to emanate from every corner of the globe. There are a lot of contradictory opinions about the primary seed for the current day poker. Despite all tales and no records the game is becoming popular.

Tales of Origin! The oldest of writings relating to poker was a reference made to a “cheating game” that was played in the Mississippi river in the boats that used to sail in them. Contradictory to the poker history reference of “cheating concept” is the “vying concept” where the players compete with betting claiming their hands as the best. However, the accomplishment of a winning with vying is done by bluffing, which is a form of cheating again. Cheating or tricking has in someway or the other continued from poker history to stick on to the poker games.

Number of cards that were used! Primarily these card games were played with just the face cards and the Aces, after some variations the 20 card games came in to play and popularly it has now manifested to live to be the 52 card deck game under the label of poker.

Partially accepted references! The poker history relating to the origin of the current day game has been averaged to be around the 19th century in the gambling tables of the Mississippi boats. The Mississippi boat games are those that have been documented by Jonathan Green. Jonathan Green’s reference is related to the 20 card form of the game.

Evolution from 20 cards to 52 card game! The inconvenience of being able to accommodate only less number of players in the 20 card game allowed the 52 card deck game to become popular. Poker history dates the 52 card game to be in the mid of 1830s.

Introduction of draw and flush! The winning hand combination of flush was introduced in an attempt to allow medium hands to improve with multiple betting rounds. The introduction of flush in poker hands dates back to 1850 and is closely associated with the draw games of that age.

Modern poker history! The current day poker variations of Omaha, Texas, limit, no limit, pot limit, spread limit and several of the rules took a clear form after the mid 19th century. The poker history relating to poker tournaments is quite short and it became popular after the introduction and World Poker Tour in the year 1970.
