Pot Limit Holdem

Posted in holdem by Patrick Bruel on October 5, 2009

Pot limit holdem can be dangerous areas to bet aggressively unless you have monster hands. I never risk betting high unless I have a better pair of J, Q, or K in pot limit holdem games. When someone is going to call a raise in these games I figure that they are having a better hand than bluff. Bluffing calling a raise in these games requires real skill a little slip means a multifold loss of your stakes! (more…)

What is Texas Holdem?

Posted in holdem by Patrick Bruel on December 13, 2008

What is Texas Holdem? Texas Holdem is lot of fun from my experiences. Initially, I was kind of confused. I knew the rules of the game, but applying it in the right place required some real losing. I made most of the blunders with comparing my pockets towards a poker with the community cards. I felt like a jester in the early days when the whole table laughed at how I missed many good pots. In Hold’em, players get two down cards and five community cards (which are face-up in the middle of the table). Your hand is determined by using the best five of those seven cards (in any combination) with the best hand winning the pot. There are four betting rounds in Holdem. In Limit Holdem, one bet and three raises are allowed for each betting round. To continue to play, players must act on each betting round and call all action to them (unless they are “all-in”). Betting always proceeds in a clockwise rotation. (more…)

There is one thing that is certain in this crazy world of Online Poker The sharks are always going to win the battle against the fish in the long run. Typically I don’t share my online poker theories and secrets in my articles, but what the heck its been a great couple of months. People often ask me how I can consistently do so well in the $10 -$20 games online. Well it’s actually quite simple. Like anyone else I have my swings, but at the end of the month when I am looking at my scorecard I am never down.In the beginning I was forced to learn the hard way about money management. I would come home after a night out with the guys, log onto PartyPoker (always PartyPoker) and decide I was the best damn player in the world. I would take my last $300 in the account and hit the $10 – $20 game with vengeance. Well that seldom panned out, typically I would go broke. Sure I had my swings where I could turn that $300 into $1500 but usually it was just out the window. (more…)

Harrington on Holdem

bought this book the other day and was rather skeptical about how good it would be, but, now that I finished it, I can honestly say that Harrington on Hold `em is the best book on poker that I have ever read. Am I over-exaggerating? No. The secret of this manual is that, while he expresses many of the same thoughts and ideas as other poker players/writers, he is far superior to them in the teaching of technique and strategy.
